​Contractors wishing to join our approved list and get the chance to compete for our contracts should follow this process:
  1. Contractors and consultants need to demonstrate health and safety standards that conform to the CDM 2007 Approved Code of Practice (ACoP).  
  2. Make sure that you have got insurance cover that meets our minimum requirements. We ask for employer’s liability insurance of at least £10 million and public liability insurance of at least £5 million. Consultants also need professional indemnity insurance of at least £2m.

In order to be invited to quote for the provision of works to all our facilities, including village halls, sports pavillions, BMX & scooter track, sports fields, you need to be on our approved list. The categories are-:

Gas Services
Hard & Soft Landscaping
Sports Pitches

17th August 2015 Invitation to Tender

The Parish Council invites tenders to cut the grass in its total of 9 acres of land in the villages of Stonebroom, Mickley and Shirland.. The grass would require 12 cuts during the growing season each year. The contract would initially be awarded for the remaining 2015 season with an option to include 2016 and 2017 seasons.

Shirland Cemetery Invitation to Tender for Cemetery Gravedigger

Shirland & Higham Parish Council are looking for a professional, competent contractor for a grave digging service at Shirland Cemetery. You must be able to respond quickly and without fail within three working days to:-

Excavate out new graves
Excavate out existing graves (re openers)
Excavate out for interment of ashes

Topping up of sunken graves

You are also required to-:

Regularly conduct Safety Inspection of Headstones
Plant grass seed on newly filled graves as required
Be available for Interments on a Saturday
Undertake additional associated maintenance work as may be required and agreed

All applicants must have in place appropriate third party liability insurance and all work carried out must be covered by a suitable risk assessment. Applications can be in written or electronic mail format to:- Tom Tait, Shirland & Higham Parish Council  (see details under 'Contact Us' section of website).

The Parish Council seek expressions of interest to join  the list of approved contractors to undertake inspection of and  routine repairs to the BMX Track at Mickley Derbyshire. Further details can be obtained from the Council office.

Invitation to Tender to Supply Grit & Maintain the Parish Grit Bins 25th November 2015

Shirland and Higham Parish Council has 30 grit bins located throughout the Parish. Applications are invited from contractors to supply grit to and maintain the bins to a good state of repair. It is envisaged that the bins will be filled twice each winter.

Cemetery Records: Creation of an Electronic Database Project

The Parish Council is embarking upon a project to transfer all the existing Shirland Cemetery paper records to an electronic format and are looking for a suitably skilled person to undertake this process.

There are 30 years of burial records to be transferred which amounts to approximately 480 individual records.


This project would suit a  person who is studying Information Technology at School or College or has successfully undertaken studies in this area.

The fees for undertaking the successful completion of this project are negotiable dependent upon the functionality of the database but it is envisaged the database will be constructed in either an 'Access' or EXCel' format and the project worker will be expected to create a database which can be expanded to cater for the new Shirland Cemetery records which is expected to open in 2018-2019.

Expansion of Approved Supplier List

​The Parish Council invites local tradesmen to join our approved list of Suppliers. We are looking for Tradesmen who  can trim hedges, prune trees and undertake general garden maintenance tasks on an adhoc basis in our total of 9 acres of land in the villages of Stonebroom, Mickley and Shirland.

Please supply copies of all relevant insurance documents, risk assessments and Health & Safety policy. Resume of previous work supported by photographic evidence would be welcome.
